DCCA exhibition

My solo show at the Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts just opened on Friday. The exhibition will be on view through March 7, 2014.

Many of the pieces are objects that people have described to me. I have been soliciting stories, drawings and descriptions of objects that people have lost and wish they still had. A submission box in the gallery will collect more stories from visitors of the DCCA during the exhibition.

Fleisher Community Day

I talked to Fleisher students and hosted a sewing party in my installation at Fleisher Art Memorial here in Philly on Saturday. It was a great chance to meet new people and get some stories of lost objects. The show is open to the public until October 26.

Cityscape

I made this small gouache painting of a cityscape this past weekend. I'm hoping to screenprint and quilt a larger version in the future.

Printing at NewCourtland

We've been printing the objects from the seniors' stories at NewCourtland. Today we printed Gladys' pearl handle pistol.

Sewing and printing at NewCourtland

We've been working away to finish stuffing and sewing pieces and to print the rest of the objects. The pineapple basket being printed above was Serena's. Her mom would crochet the baskets and use them as decoration.

New Courtland Fellowship

We've completed the first two sessions of my project with Germantown Home seniors and college students and recent grads. We are recreating objects that each person has lost and wishes they still had. In the next two sessions we will begin screen printing onto fabric and sewing the pieces into dimensional works.

Gladys' Baby Ruth

Just printed a bunch of vintage fabric Baby Ruth candy bars. Gladys from Germantown Home described stealing her Dad's Model T Ford to go to the store and buy a Baby Ruth. She was only seven years old and stacked pillows so she could reach the driving wheel.

I have been working on a comment box for the Free Library with my intern Monica Morris. I am hoping people will submit their stories of objects they have lost for my installation there in 2014.

Printing pans

Una helped me print iron pans today. These were Yvonne's mother's pans. She remembers her mom making flapjacks in them, and wishes she still had them.

Printing these couches on fabric for a new trapuntoed version.

Figure Painting

I have been working on my figure painting skills in an evening class at Fleisher with James Dupree. I've learned many helpful techniques already and have a new appreciation for the process my students are going through.
